Sailing Club

The purpose of the club is to develop sailors for competition and promote the sport of sailing. We sail in the Fall and also the Spring. The team is governed by very strict rules. Our experienced sailors compete in all kinds of conditions, which require sailing skills, knowledge of racing rules and special gear. Other club members are learning to sail and may compete in the future.

The Central Regional School District spans 5 towns that are on the Toms River and Barnegat Bay. This gives us students from Island Heights, Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Ocean Gate and Bayville. It only makes sense to allow these students the opportunity to experience one of our area's oldest tradition of sailboat racing.

Central Regional Sailing Club meets after school at Toms River Yacht Club. Sailors are responsible for their own transportation. Sailors practice using the Ocean County College 420 Fleet. The 420 is manned by two sailors, one being the Skipper who steers the boat and controls the main sail, the other is Crew which controls the jib sail. You don't have to have sailing experience to join the club. Many students who have never sailed before have learned to sail and become instructors.

The Central Regional Sailing Club is a member of the Interscholastic Sailing Association, Governed by the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules. We compete within the MASSA district which includes, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Our local league New Jersey Interscholastic Sailing includes these competitive Sailing Teams, Toms River South, Mon Don , Southern Regional, Pt. Pleasant Beach, CBA, Princeton, Rumson-Fair Haven, Wall and St Augustine Prep to name a few.

Many of Central’s Sailors that have graduated go on to sail in college. Ocean County College, American University, Johnson and Wales, Stevens, University of Delaware and MIT have Central Sailors. Three of our graduating sailors have joined the Coast Guard.

Sailing Fees

Each High School Sailing Team must pay an annual fee of $150.00 to be a member of the Massa District Interscholastic Sailing Association. This registers the team which sanctions the individual sailors to race and also covers them with ISSA insurance. This fee is covered by the Athletic Department.

Each High School Sailing Team must also pay seasonal dues to the NJISA our local chapter.

There is also a coaching fee, which differs seasonally depending on the amount of practice or regattas. We have enlisted Central regional graduate Zach Brooks as our coach, practice is twice a week for up to 13 weeks per season. We try to defer much of the cost through fundraisers.
